Porsche owners are the happiest, JD Power reportsJD Power released the annual Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.
In this survey, JD Power asked 74,000 vehicle owners to rate their ride on more than 80 attributes.
Once again, Porsche clenched the highest-ranking nameplate award. This is the eighth consecutive year that Porsche won.
While the APEAL study measures how satisfied the owners are with their vehicles, it does not correlate to how many are being sold, or how reliable the vehicles are in the long-run.
The APEAL study is the most effective on pinpointing which vehicles and features are pleasing the owners.
One of the interesting trends that JD Power noted is that, even though many vehicle buyers are downsizing their ride, the smaller vehicles are providing enough "appeal" to the owners.
"Owners who downsize find that today's compact models are not the 'econoboxes' that they may have once feared," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at JD Power.
The automotive manufacturers are putting into the smaller cars the features that used to be available only on larger vehicles, or even luxury vehicles, several years ago.
Folks buying a new compact car may find similar features, or even more advanced features, from the larger vehicles they previously owned for the past 5-6 years.
