What do you like about 2007 Saturn AURA? It is definitely not my Dad's 1990 era Saturn! After having two different minivans for the last 18 years, I had bought a Mazda Miata MX5 to put the fun back into driving. After finally trading my last minivan in for the Aura XR, I am now debating on whether I still need the Miata for that "fun drive" anymore. I got the deep blue ZR with the Moroccan Brown interior fully loaded. My coworkers who have seen the car cannot believe it is a Saturn. It handles great, I fully love the 6 CD changer that also plays MP3 CDs, the heated seats, the adjustable pedals, steering wheel, and fully adjustable power seat makes getting a comfortable position easy. It is quiet, although popping the sun roof does increase wind noise, especially at highway speeds. The one thing I really like about the XR is the engine/transmission. The Aura XR can drive like a kitten with a light foot on the gas or a real tiger when needed. The Saturn Aura XR gives the driver the confidence of being able to merge onto highway traffic without the fear of getting rear ended but can still traverse a school zone without fear of a speeding ticket. The OnStar feature is great. As I will be letting my 17 year old son take it on his Prom date, I have the confidence that should something happen, the 6 standard airbags will provide maximum protection along with OnStar providing immediate 911 response.
How would you improve 2007 Saturn AURA? As much as I enjoy the Aura XR as it is, I would like to see: 1. Better, softer door arm rests. 2. Better center arm rest. 3. Rear seat fold down center arm rest. 4. Trunk that pops open all the way and has a handle to close it. 5. Driver's seat with memory recall.
2007 Saturn AURA Review: I drive 7 miles each way to work and when the traffic is light, the car gets 21-22 mpg of 35 to 45 mph driving. When traffic backs up and it takes me 45 minutes to drive those 7 miles, mileage drops down to the 18 mpg range. On a recent 200 mile road trip that was almost all highway driving, the car averaged 26.5 to 27 mpg of 65 to 70 mph driving. But when I'm traveling through Houston traffic that can range from 55 mph to 80+ mph, I would get anywhere from 29 to 33 mpg - strange but true. Recently, when I was asked what kind of driver I am, I responded that that when I drive my Miata, I drive just like the Houston drivers I curse at when I drove my minivan. But now that I have the Aura XR, I am finding I am driving just like those Houston drivers I curse at when I'm driving my Miata. I am sure there are other cars out there with better handling, better styling, and better "fun" factor, but those cars normally sell for thousands more.
