I like my GTI because of the way the ride feels, it's fun and it has a classier look and feel than some of the competitors. I can zip around in traffic too. I am disappointed in the acceleration though.

This car loves speed and shifts quickly without the head jerking torque. Smooth ride, great interior and exterior finish. I miss the manual sometimes but I haven't thrown the DSG out of bed yet.

For those of you who want the best pocket rocket, keep looking because the GTI is no longer King Of The Hill. The Mazdaspeed 3 blows the GTI away. If VW was really that pleased with the current Golf/GTI etc, they would not be replacing it in the next two years.

Love it!!!!!!!!!! Great car for the enthusiast that desires a quick, fun car, that can run with almost anything. Turbo is superb. I own a manual. Paddle shifters are cool, but the true racer will enjoy the manual 6. Can adjust more naturally. "Un Pimp das auto."

This car is light years removed from the 1983 original, which isn't necessarily bad, since it's 2007. Where the original was light, tossable, and cheap, the latest GTI has gotten heavier, way more sophisticated, and much quicker. That's how iconic models have evolved, from the Honda Civic Si, to the Porsche 911. You can make the case that the present GTI is a less expensive, sportier version of the Audi A3, which it self is a brilliant automobile. What is certain is that this GTI displays fine German craftsmanship, especially for this price category. The engine is a marvel of technology, with buckets of torque and an addictive intake growl. To keep things from getting too expensive, opt for the manual transmission, and no extra options. The plaid cloth seats are a nice touch, and an ode to the original.

I own a 2007 4 door GTI and totally love it. It's so much fun to drive. I actually have calluses on my hands from driving so much on winding roads.

Back end could be more stylish, it kind of reminds me of a Geo Metro. (Front end is hot!) A.C. should have setting to use both center and bottom vents simultaneously.

Incredibly reponsive, DSG with paddle shifters is a wonder, seats are just great, and absolute ball to drive.... and completely practical. Great mileage, amazingly comfortable, quiet and safe.

Not sure that's possible. I drove an original in 1983, and absolutely loved it. This car is a huge improvement in every respect.

IF driving for you is a utiltarian activity, a mere means of getting from point A to point B, then this car is not for you. If, however, if driving can be a pasttime, if the drive to your place at the beach or in the mountains, or to work, can be the best part of the day for you, then this is your car. And if you are one of those who love to drive, unless you are ready to buy, DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR. If you love to drive, and then drive this car, you will simply have to have one. Believe me; I know from personal experience.
Driving this car at speed is ablout the most fun you can have that dosen't involve the removal of clothing.
The key to all the fun is the responsivenees of everything in the car.... the engine, the steering, the DSG, even the power windows, which have a one-touch UP feature, something I'd not seen before. In this car, be careful what you think, because what you think happens immediately.
