The elegant and tightly design minimalist interior. There are a lot of luxury function, but not all the stupid buttons you find on most cars. I like the exterior styling which really stands out. Nicer visual design than S60 or 80. Basically perfect except for very minor comments below. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Volvo S40?
Make the power seat memory settings linked to the mirror position. You can only unlock the trunk with the key fob-needs a release in the glove compartment.

The S40 T5 handles and accelerates great, better than my friend's BMW 325xi. The key is kind of weird but works fine. I worry that relying on this type of electronic starting system will someday leave me stranded perhaps when the car is much older. |

I think the car is beautiful, and has found a styling niche in a sea of look-alike vehicles. I love the simplicity of the interior, too. All the features are there, but the typical "cover the dash with buttons and switches" mentality is not. The T5 with sport package is fun, and the car holds its own against impressive offerings from BMW and Audi. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Volvo S40?
The cupholders work well, but detract from the beauty of the interior slightly. They are pretty "low tech" when compared to the elegant simplicity that surrounds them. All in all, a small gripe. 2006 Volvo S40 Review:
The Volvo S40 T5 looks and feels like an expensive euro-sport to me, but costs far less than similarly equipped Audi's and BMW's. The sport package adds a nice set of 17" wheels, which balance the cars looks and performance. In short, this car is everything I hoped it would be--well outfitted, beautiful, sporty, safe and fun at a fraction of the price of an Audi or BMW. The safety features are impressive too, and the car is equipped with both active whiplash protection for the front seats, and side curtain airbags for front and rear occupants. |

Rear-view limited, however, I understand the safety factor. For a 12 speaker, 305watt audio system, the sound quality is pretty weak. Installing an 8 inch sub will help. If Volvo put the S60 R engine in this car with a tighter suspension, you would have the hottest Scandinavian car on the market. 2006 Volvo S40 Review:
Wife just leased a 2006 S40 T5 AWD. I own a 2005 S4 so my opinions may be biased. I was impressed how comfortable the drive is, the smooth handling and 6-speed gearbox, nice acceleration for 218 hp in the lower revs despite the car's weight, broad torque band, simple yet sophisticated interior, decent navigational system, "thud" sound of the closing doors, overall sporty styling. |

We have had our car for 6 mons, and everything that can go wrong has! I would not recommend this car most issues we have had are resolved in the 2006 model.....that is what I have read on-line. Simple things mastered years ago on cars made by US Mfgs like, Digital clock (can't keep time even after update), headlights shine ....where...not where we are looking, drink holders, that can't hold drinks, Interior door handles that scratch so bad it looks like you picked it up from the local junk yard!!!! The TIRES..we won't go there.......Don't have time to list them all, there are too many. Thanks, PassionRed |

What a fantastic vehicle. I was not in the market for a new car when I test drove this Volvo for Volvos national Charity Event for "Alex's Lemonade Stand." (Dealer donated 20-bucks for a test drive) I bought it the next day. Sporty, fast, handles like a dream...and garners a lot of looks. It is different from all other comparable sports sedans. Nicer and faster then a co-workers '06 Mercedes C-class...he was impressed at the speed! I LOVE driving this car!!! I love looking at when it is sitting still!
