When I'm driving in my Touareg I feel safe because of it's heavy frame and excellent handling abilities. The interior is plush, the exterior is slick and the ride is smooth. What more can you ask for? Volkswagen has definitely set the standard for what an SUV should really be like. |

The cockpit style dash is very appealing. The front seats are the most comforatable seats I have ever sat in. That means a lot since I travel a bit and have rented 100's of cars over the years Cons: How would you improve 2006 Volkswagen Touareg?
The navigation system needs to be more user friendly. The transmission could also use a little more gear spacing and tighter shifts. Keep in mind I race a Corvette so I am a bit picky on HP and shifting. 2006 Volkswagen Touareg Review:
Both myself and my wife test drove the Caddilac SRX, Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi and Ford Explorer V8. After driving the VW, it was the hands down winner. The Touareg was the most comforatable, had the smoothest ride, the great acceleration and handling vehicle we drove. Couldn't wait to own it. |

I love the power of the acceleration in sports gear. It rides smoothly, like a car but has the vigor of a truck. the interior is absolutley beautiful. The dash lights up like a cockpit and the navigation system has saved me countless times. I also appreciate the sensor locks. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Volkswagen Touareg?

Fluid six speeds in drive, very aggressive in sports mode + five low range speeds for off road. Lock center rear differentials on the go. The automatic adjustment of seat and steering wheel can be defeated by an under the wheel button. Nice when you have a long legged guest behind. It would be better that the button ONLY defeats the seat back up, but not the steering wheel up and away function 2006 Volkswagen Touareg Review:
I always change cars every two years. The difference is if I find a better model, I change, if not, just buy the same. I drove a BMW X5 V8, and it had problems. I changed to a Mercedes ML500, and had no problems, but it was not good offroad. Then I changed for a 2004 VW Touareg, it was more comfortable and user friendly. After 30,000 impecable miles, I traded it in for a 2005 Touareg in July 2005. With Pirellis on 18 inch wheels, it handles as if it was on smooth rails. Precise, totally satisfactory to drive, in both the city and highway. Then go off road, the BMW and the Mercedes had trouble in the Death Valley canyons, the Touareg makes everything steady and easy. |

More power and better gas mileage 2006 Volkswagen Touareg Review:
For such a bulky vehicle (I have to fold in mirrors to get in garage), I am very cramped with the driver's seat all the way back (6'4"/230 lbs). It is hard to see left or right rear by turning in the drivers seat. The owners manual does NOT describe how to set the dash clock. I had to go to two dealerships (7 sales persons and three mechanics before the clock could be set). I e-mailed VW about the clock and NEVER received an answer. This truck gets very poor gas mileage (about 13 mpg) for a 6-cylinder. there is no immediate response from the gas pedal when starting out. Access to the engine appears restricted due to the intake manifold (?) covering top of engine. I'll find out for sure when it's time to take a wrench to it. |

I have had two Volkswagen Touaregs and had nothing but headaches. VW doesn't want to deal with many of the ongoing issues and they eventually refunded my payments and took back the vehicles. The truck is beautiful until you have your FIRST problem. Then, run! |

The seats are unbelievably comfortable. The stereo is awesome. The fit'n finish are top notch. There is secret storage under the passenger seat. I love the sun blocker above rearview mirror, MP3 input in center console instead of glovebox, sliding armrest, smooth ride and confident feel, rearview cam. this truck is different from any other vehicle. More power and better gas mileage for V6 engine. It is hard to see the overhead clock / compass. The folding rear seats should be a little easier. Add voice recognition for the navigation system. The cost of accessories and service are a little high. VW needs to include maintanence and loaner cars to compete with Lexus, BMW & Mercedes-Benz. I looked at 'em all and the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg is by far the best. My single complaint is that the V6 needs a little more get-up-and- go. The lack of power wouldn't keep me from buying the vehicle again, but it is a minor drawback. However, the positives far outweigh the negatives on this vehicle. It handles incredibly well given it's weight - you actually feel safer because it feels like you are driving a tank built by Porsche. I almost didn't look at this vehicle because VW has done a poor of job advertising. Even their website and brochure do not describe this vehicle well. Some of the coolest features aren't found in their literature. Believe me, one test drive & your hooked. |

Favorite features -- good handling in mountain switchbacks, turning radius, clearanced, snow & ice. Tiptronic shifting is like manual transmission, and the automatic option is good for driving while eating burritos in city traffic. The interior is nice, too. I really don't like the warning beeps to alert you when the front passenger airbag is off, which happens everytime the front passenger gets out of the car. 6 short beeps, and one loud, long one. It drives me crazy. I am thinking of removing some wires. Also, the feet-heating could be improved. 2006 Volkswagen Touareg Review:
Consumer Reports gave the Touareg V6 low ratings. Their reviews citing "sluggishness" do not consider the tiptronic shifting or "superdrive" options. It is not a racecar, but its performance is more than adequate. Also, I get 19-20mpg in 7,500-8,700ft mountainous terrain using high quality oil; it's as good or better than comparable SUVs. Ice and snow on steep hills -- no problem; the Toureg outperforms our Subaru Outback on ice because of the locking differential and torque. The heated seats sure do help on cold mornings. For driving performance, there is very little lean around corners; I feel safe while driving and would recommend this truck to anyone. |

This car deserves much better reviews from the so-called experts. I find it to be an ideal size, easy to get in and out, nothing rattles, the tolerances in the body work are amazingly tight, and the paintwork is flawless. Also the chrome, beautiful wheels and an interior matche Mercedes-Benz any time. The list of standard equipment is comprehensive, you hardly need anything else. Off-Road work on our ranches is no problem at all, with high and low 4wheel drive and locked differentials and on road driving is a pleasure. |
