Great looks. Not a common car.
Major midrange punch with auto and 2.0.
Superb power, heated seats.
Superior mpg--never under 20, low 30s at 75-85.
A quiet car.
Not a single color that isn't tasteful--and different. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Saab 9-3?
Some would find the interior austere--hey, it's Scandinavian.
Sunroof needs careful "wing" adjustment for quiet cruising.
Rear knee room slightly spoils comfortable rear seat.
Aeros look great but front spoiler hits curbs.
Aero ride a bit harsh on small bumps--trade off for sticky and fun handling.
Lastly, 06 and earlier models had a decidedly inferior stereo. 07s much improved--dash also slightly redesigned. 2006 Saab 9-3 Review:
Not an everyday purchase--takes some guts to buy the JD Powers "worst" car. JD lists 3.5 problems per Saab. BMW or Mercedes are 1.8, Honda .72 or so. But I have found dealer exceptional and I suspect ALL problems are computer related--this car uses CAN system to control everything. Each door, for example, is its own "computer," more or less. After 4 years I suspect these bugs have been worked out. (All cars will be wired this way in the future).
In every other way this is an extremely competitive car with some real driving character: terrific steering feel, a firm but compliant ride and lots of tire grip. Yet it is as quiet as my Audi A6, particularly for wind noise. The 4 cylinder is so smooth and quiet, I see no need for the V6. The 2.0 has a midrange surge that is addictive--much like a torquey V-8.
And the real world gas mileage is nearly sensational. On a trip through Utah, including some major mountains, and averaging 85 mph, we got 29.9 over a full tank. Never goes below 20, even in downtown.
Finally, think about safety. Go to the IIHS site and see how the 9-3 does when hit from the side by an SUV.
Absolutely amazing body structure. As far as looks, that's up to you--but this car is so far beyond the Japanese, especially in choice of colors and body styles: sedan, wagon, convert. Really worth a look, folks.

I own the Areo Sport Combi and the power is seemless.
Nice all around performance for a wagon. Much sportier than anticipated. Some of the best seats in the business.
Braking performance is very European in feel - solid and firm - no nose dive.
Overall it is very fun to drive! Cons: How would you improve 2006 Saab 9-3?
Way too much interior plastic of very low quality. I have not been through a winter yet - but the creaks and rattles from the cold plastic are sure to drive me nuts...

I bought a new 2004 Sabb 9-3 convertible. I love it!!
I did have problems with the top not going up or down...both but at differet times. It was finially fixed properly after 3 trips to the dealership. |

Looks good and gets great mileage at high speeds Cons: How would you improve 2006 Saab 9-3?
The cheap parts they use on the interior. Most all of the black on my radio knobs and A/C etc is coming off. Also the lumbar support is broken and the SAAB emblem is discolored. The transmission, windows, and other mechanical parts have needed computer updates. Way too many times in the shop 2006 Saab 9-3 Review:
I would never buy again They will fix anything that is wrong but too many thing are wrong. |
