What's not to like, but I imagine the driving experience is #1. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Mazda Miata?

I own the 2006 Grand Touring manual in Copper Red and it's simply a stunning sight. It seems to turn heads and invite questions. Coworkers go out of their way to find me and inquire. Other Mazda Miata owners are excited to tell me of their adventures and satisfaction. The last one beamed as he told me of the 250,000 miles on his 1990. My girlfriend has a 1991 with 73,000 miles on it, and she always asked me to drive. Hence, I now own one too. The 2006 is more enjoyable than I expected when buying it. Now, after a couple of weeks, I revel in the ease of use with the top, the keyless entry and ignition and the smooth acceleration in all six gears. The sound system is very enjoyable, although at highway speeds doesn't quite overrule the wind noise unless at high volume. That's okay though, because the joy of being under the sun or the stars is far more fulfilling than the sound of Andrea Bocelli or the Beach Boys in the silence of the cabin. There are four cupholders - well two cupholders and two bottle holders - two in the console and the bottle holders in the doors. I guess there aren't many options in a cabin so small, and I’m glad there is a place to put a drink - the '91 has none at all - but the console with a drink in it makes shifting and resting my arm while driving a little difficult. I have my cell phone in there because there really isn't another spot for it and it doesn’t protrude too much. So I use the door holders more. It would be wise to have a dedicated coffee travel mug than a paper cup from the drive thru, though, because opening and closing the door with a drink in it can be scary. I belabor the point of the cupholders only because there is nothing else to say that isn't truly favorable about this car. The top is quick and easy to use, so much so that I pop it down for a two-block drive to the market and pop it back up when I get there. The trunk is the trunk. It's a sports car for crying out loud and it's what you would and should expect. The look of the car is truly outstanding and there is more space in the cabin. One caveat to that is that the passenger legroom has been slightly sacrificed probably by the fact that the engine has been moved five inches aft to create better balance. Also the emergency brake is located on the passenger side of the console now. It seems that the car was designed clearly and primarily for the comfort of the driver - even the exhaust has been rerouted to prevent a hot right leg while driving. I can only pat myself on the back for making the plunge myself. Thank you, me. |

The whole package is more than the sum of it's parts. It's so balanced that driving one makes you want to drive smoother and faster because it's best feature is that it is always fun to drive and be in. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Mazda Miata?
An extra 25 to 30 horsepower would be an additional asset. Soundproofing and carpet quality needs improvement. It ought to have an adapter for an Ipod as standard equipment. The quality of the radio stinks when price is a consideration. |

Still a bit small. needs more trunck and storage space. perhaps 2 " width & length, balance maintained for great performance. 2006 Mazda Miata Review:
Overall - better than the competition (at present). A lot better (in many areas) than the Solstace and Sky, though they have a sexier exterior. The 350 Z has more trunck and power, but too expensive. The s2000 and BMW Z4 same, but both sexy styles. |

Cup holders need to be moved... No ideas but something clever would have to be created. The current cup holders are basically useless unless the automatic tranny is installed then the console cup holders are ok. The stereo (Bose) could be better. The center console/cupholder 2006 Mazda Miata Review:
I traded in my 1999 Miata for a 2006 and really like it so far. That acceleration is fun, and the 2006 grips the road a lot better than my 1999 Miata.
However, I hate how they wasted precious storage space with a useless center console. They could have made a nice little storage space like the 1999 has with a change spot, sunglasses holder and everything. Why on Earth do I need 2 more cupholders when I have them in the doors?
And I would have thought they could've made a little storage in the doors, too, instead of wasting that space.
I love the three bins behind & between the seats, and the glove compartment is roomy.
Why did they get rid of the nifty electric door locks of the 1999 breed? When I locked my driver's side door, the other side also locked. I didn't need a separate "power lock" button. You'd think the engineers would keep all the good stuff when they make changes...... |
