Pros: What do you like about 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
* Mileage- This truck on the highway can get up to 22 mpg, which is excellent for a truck, period!
* Towing- Couldn't ask for a better vehicle when pulling any trailer: stock, RV, or even a car hauler!
* Handling (with a load) In this truck, when hauling, can barely tell any bumps in the road!
* Exterior View- Dodge done an awesome job redesigning the headlight in the '06 model, gives it a bolder, and more aggressive look!
* Interior- Road noise is out! My friends and I can carry on a normal voiced conversation, even going 80mph! Too the interior on this pickup is divine, SLT package comes with a true center console, equipped with double compartments and your choice of woodgrain or carbon fiber dash bezel! The cloth seats call for a comfortable, lay-z-boy recliner feel, but do have the tendency to stain easy.
* All little gizmos and gadgets are at your fingertips, if not on the steering wheel, only a half a reach away to the dash! The added tow/haul button in addition to the O/D OFF button adds for extra torque and shifting patterns when hauling a load!

Cons: How would you improve 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
* Suspension- When not in tow/haul, the truck has a rather rough ride, even for the 4x2!
* Interior- Wish the LONESTAR edition came with the option of leather seats or cloth seats that didn't show stains so easy!

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Review:
I personally own a '06 LONESTAR edition 1/2 ton! Bought used with 30,000 miles and now has over 103,600 miles, I live on dirt roads which is normally hard on pickups but still no rattles or any type of undercarriage problems! I haul cattle with it nearly 4 days a week and have had no transmission or engine problems! Hell I've had it for over 70k/ 3 years and still have yet to see the check engine light!

Great Pickup, would recommend to anyone looking for a true, sturdy, dependable, ready to get the job done kind a truck!

Lower height might be nice, and certainly a 4cyl mode light on the Hemi MDS. Mileage is not great, but it's in line with competitive models.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Review:
I have an '06 Big Horn Quad Cab 4x4 with the Hemi MDS. It now has 55,000 miles on it, and it is still very tight - no squeaks, rattles or groans. I love the aggressive looks to it, the 20" wheels look just right, and the hauling power of this vehicle is impressive. I regularly tow a 3000lb car on a 2500lb trailer, and the truck doesn't even feel like there's anything behind it. I have the upgraded sound system, the power rear window, anti slip differential, towing package and heavy duty cooling options, so the truck tows effortlessly. I would agree that the shocks wore out very quickly - mine were completely flaccid at 40,000 miles. I replaced them with premium gas shocks, and the truck now rides and handles better than new. I did have some trouble in bad weather as the original tires were near the end of their life, but I replaced them with premium all season tires (Nokian Vatiiva), and have had no issues since. With all the power on tap, the temptation is to be a little heavy on the throttle, but with calm driving habits, I get anywhere around 14 city and 17 combined driving, with nearly 20mpg on a long trip with the cruise control set at 70. The build quality is quite good, but this truck was built during the Daimler-Chrysler years, where quality was vastly improved. I find the controls logically laid out and easy to operate, everything is within easy reach of the driver, and the instrumentation is legible and complete. I don't especially like the white background gauges, but they are easy to see in almost every situation.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with this vehicle, and would buy another in a heartbeat as long as our new administration doesn't put Chrysler out of business. Even if President Obama kills Chrysler, I don't think I'll have need of a new truck for a very long time.

The styling of this truck is great, big rig all the way from the lifted hood to the bid headlights.
This is a true truck not a car or suv with a bed, it's a truck.
The performance is great for a truck of its size and the fuel mileage is okay since you are trying to push 3 tons of metal down the road.

I would like to see a few things make it one the option list and that is a manual transmission paired with the Hemi.
A better sound system for those long trips, and a indicator light of when the fuel management system is on or off.
I would like to see better tires come standard on the truck.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Review:
I have a SLT 4x4 quad cab with 32000 miles on it and I am very happy with my decision to purchase the truck. First off I drove the Chevys and Fords and to me the best "Truck" is the dodge and this is coming from a diehard Chevy nut too. The truck performs very well for me; I can hook my 21 foot bass boat behind it and take on any mountain road with out even realizing it is back there. The power is unsurpassed, my friend has a 325i BMW and I can hang with him till 60 and this is while hauling his sofa for him! The fuel mileage for this truck is okay for its size, I get around 17 mpg in the rural area I live in and as much as 20 on family trips on the interstate, but if you intend on using it in the city you might want to think again I get 13 mpg in the city, if I am lucky at that. The ride in this truck is good and very quite too, almost too quite which is where the satellite radio comes in handy. I have had this tuck in some pretty tight spots off-road and after I ditched the stock tires it did wonderful, but don't try any heavy off-roading with the stock ones you will need a tow truck TRUST ME. The exterior styling is awesome; the big tall stance with the 20 inch rims makes it stand out in the parking lot full of other trucks. If you are short you might need to invest in some step bars to get into it, I am 6'5" and I was wearing down the set getting in and out till I got some step bars. Overall it is a good truck, there is a few electrical gremlins with the trans but nothing a visit to the Dodge dealer and 20 minuets can't fix. I recommend this truck to someone who wants a Truck not a car with a bed but a "Truck".

The stereo speakers could be of higher quality.
Auto headlamps (like Chevy) would be a nice feature.
Standard leather wrapped steering wheel on all models other than work trucks.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Review:
My truck is the Big Horn 4x4 edition offered here in Oklahoma. Quad cab with Hemi and 3.93 rear axle ratio with 5 speed automatic. This truck gets pretty decent gas mileage with a big V8 with the fuel management system shutting it down to 4 cylinders at highway speeds. Usually avg about 17 mpg when you factor in city drving. Tons of cargo space in the center console and under the middle front seat. Also lots of cargo space under the rear seats. The 4x4 version stands tall and requires a bit of effort to get in and out of. But, this really makes the truck look great when coupled with the larger tires wrapped around the 20 inch rims. I don't usually do this, but a guy was revving his engine in his Nissan Titan at a stoplight the other night. I grinned and we took off. It wasn't long and he was staring at my taillights! His truck appeared to be decked out pretty well given the badging that I saw.
You can't beat the price of the Dodge trucks. You get way more bang for your buck. Sure, Chevy now has about the same amount of gadgets in their 2007 offerings as did my 2005 VW V8 Touareg, but if you want a true loaded TRUCK, the the Dodge is the way to go. Just to give you a little insight into reliability of the Ram, I have 2003 Hemi Ram quad cab that I gave to my father after I purchased the new model. It has 82,000 miles on it and has not had one single problem other than the headlamp switch has been broken.
These trucks appear to be built solid and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants a real truck. You can spend 5-10K more and by a Chevy with all the fruity gadgets or keep your bills low and get a solid Ram.

Fuel mileage not good, suspect high stance is part of the reason.

Remote entry. Half the time the remote does not work and I have to use the key to open the door. Does any one have the same problem or a solution? I had the battery replace with not luck.
I have the 4.7 liter and it does not have a lot of power. Especially at certain ranges.
The seats have had to be repaired because the material is torn.
The seat belt for the driver side is twisted when you connect it. It needs to be turned so that when you buckle up it is not twisted.

Re-circ door broke, ignition needs re-keyed, seats stain easily and idles at 300 rpm but the tachometer is inaccurate, the computer in dash is not giving correct reading. Very leery of its overall reliability. Just got it a few weeks ago and all these things are starting to happen.

2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Review:
I bought it new, all highway miles, blend gate on the AC broke at 37000 miles, upper ball joints had to be replaced at 60,000. Front wheel bearings out at 92,000. The transmission is beginning to fail at 102,000.

I am very disappointed with this truck. I am a Chevy man, and my last Silverado had 389,000 miles when I traded. I replaced the ac compressor and 1 water pump in the 8 years I drove it. BEWARE STAY AWAY FROM DODGE!!!! Or there is a very good chance that you will regret it.

Also the wheel bearing failure was a recall, suppose to be free replacement...but wouldn't you know my 2006 Ram had the good wheel bearings and they failed at 92,000 and I had to pay for the replacement $648.00. DODGE does not stand behind their products.
