Great, retro exterior styling.
Excellent fuel economy, cargo space and configurable interior. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
Stiffer suspension, especially a rear sway bar.
6 speed auto trans.

I replaced a totally worn out Astro van with a 2006 HHR 2LT model. While it doesn't have the ultimate hauling ability of the Astro, it is MUCH nicer to drive, and burns 1/2 as much fuel. The exterior styling is a real hit- classic looks in a modern wagon.
The handling is clearly a compromise, I immediately added a rear sway bar that stiffened the roll resistance and helped curb the understeer of the stock car-something Chevy should have done from the factory. I don't expect it to be a sports car, but Chevy should have put a quicker steering box in it as well. With that said, the overall drive is pleasant enough. Power is quite adequate, especially considering the fuel economy- 23-25mpg around town, and 30 on the highway.
The interior is a compromise to cost, with fairly cheap materials. I put a carbon fiber dash kit in mine, which dressed it up greatly. The seats are very comfortable and reasonably roomy, and the visibility is ok, except for looking up at traffic lights. That's when you know what those prisms on 1940s cars were for. The short windshield is part of the styling, so live with it.
Overall, it's a great looking, economical, versatile, daily driver, and a very good value. They are wildly popular in my area, for good reason. |

Rides nicely!
Looks "sporty".
Great on gas!
Nice little "run around car".
Like the "on star" package! Especially when the kids have the car.

Engine light keeps coming on.
Bolt covers around seats pop off.
Cup holders in a bad spot in front and the back cup holder needs to be deeper.
Front shoulder seat belts need to be more "short person" friendly...cuts across the neck even with the seat raised up.
I have replaced the breaks due to the terrible noise they make only to have the "new ones" to do the same thing! Really embarrassing upon stopping!
Dents too easily and really expensive to repair! I have noticed several other HHR's with dents in the same location.....especially at the back door latch! 2006 Chevrolet HHR Review:

Have real problem with the front end shaking while braking, replacing the brakes and rotors did no good. Out of warranty but GM will not acknowledge a problem. This is a dangerous situation while driving the mountain roads. |

My 2006 is great! I traded a Mercedes, and you could not give me the Mercedes back. Every motor; windows, heat, air, windows, etc, are stronger, and smoother than the Mercedes (a 2001 ML430)and the sound system is set up to sound good-the Benz had Bose, but it was not set up well. Horsepower is perfect. Took a car full of adults up Trail Ridge in Rocky Mtn. Park, no problem. I am delighted. This is a spectacular machine package Cons: How would you improve 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
The front end is too low; a lift kit is in order. The cup holders could be better. I think Chevy should look at putting GPS in, as an option, as GPS is the future; true you can put in after market, but GPS is nicer when installed factory. Great style and cool retro look. Taking a similar style from the old Classic Woody and modernizing it. Great head turner of the year. Since I purchased the car I have had many people ask to look inside the vehicle as well as ask the cost and what extras came with the car.
Very happy with the gas mileage both city and hwy.
Extremely comfortable ride, cool sound system.
Cargo space like that of a standard size truck bed with a camper only with out the discomfort of a truck ride. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
Cup holders location could be better and be designed to allow large mug's with handles.
Maybe a wider wheel base to allow for more room between the front/passanger doors and seats. As well as setting the seat a bit wider for overweight people's comfort.

I have owned my HHR since September '05. The day it hit the dealerships I couldn't wait to see and drive the car. The first weekend it was out I got to drive it and fell in love. I had researched and driven several other SUV's and Midsized cars,almost making up my mind when I saw the HHR advertised online. After driving it I was sold; after riding in it my family was sold as well. With in a week I was the proud owner of a Dark Grey HHR. Haven't had a mechanical problem yet and really love having the Onstar monthly check up sent by e-mail to me. My first real car was a Ford Mustang, my second the Buick Skylark, now I have this great Chevy with super safety features for not only my own peace of mind but that of my families as well. For someone who has ostioperosis, fibromyalgia, reversed curvature of the c-spine and degenerative disk disease with a torn disk in the lumbar; THIS car is the best thing that ever came around for me. i love my HHR i love the gas mileage, the room it has for family,the storage space. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
the only trouble i have had from mine it the starting, i have replaced the key ignition. I have still had trouble with it not starting, still unknown of the cause. 2006 Chevrolet HHR Review:

Great pick up with a lot of passengers for a 4 cylinder vehicle. Excellent gas milage in my hilly region of Ohio. Cons: How would you improve 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
I would add more storage compartments and a lock button in the rear by the tailgate allowing you to take items out and then lock it without digging out your remote while holding a cooler or whatever 2006 Chevrolet HHR Review:
I love this car. It has a great ride to it and is comfortable in both back and front seats. I like the styling but I must admit it took me awhile to get use to the window switches being in the middle. I like the ease of cleaning it after a day at the beach or after taking my dogs to the park. It cleans really easy and the fold down back made it quick and simple to convert from kid vehicle to pet friendly. It has many options to it and the pricing is right for a family car. I have not had any problems with this car since purchasing it despite it being a newly introduced vehicle to the market. I also see that the new 2008 have additional options like an AA5 allowing you to put panels instead of windows and panel, ss models available. I also see a lot of customzing going on to let you personalize your own car. It's nice to be able to easily modify your car with trim, decals, or panel additions at a cheap price to show your individual style. |

I had a wreck in my HHR it took forever.. weeks to get parts...wreck was ll/9/07 ...picked up the car today still no rocker panels...Was told hard to get parts for this car?I Have a handicapped daughter and have to travel all over with her. The back lets down for her wheel chair, it is easy accessable. I missed my car while being fixed and was out over $500 because parts were so hard to find, or I was told so by the collision center?? |
