Great gas mileage (averaging 29 HWY).
Roomy.

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Mercury Montego?
I little more power would have been nice but then you sacrifice the gas mileage.
Driver's side heated leather seat just quick working but passenger side still works.

6 speed transmission--issues began before 25,000 miles--had it "reprogrammed twice--the dealer wanted to do that again at around $290 per. A transmission shop told me that that is the service manual recommendation--two reprograms--then an new control module--then he said--the recommend fixing the transmission at a (new valve body) at a cost of around $3000.

I had Fords and Chevys from the 1960's. Never had a transmission problem--I have had Fords and Chevys from the 80's and then this car--nothing but problems.

I-very unwillingly--will not buy American again! Hondas and Toyotas from now on! After 4 Hondas we have had no major problems beyond usual wear and tear. One car went 298,000 before we needed a front end rebuild. Decided against it. Merc--useless after just 28,000 miles--Ford denies the problem.

Trans went at 63000 miles...ford/mercury doesn't care...can't believe only 36000 mi warranty on it (most companies offer 100,000mi warranty).
Would say it was the best and worst car I have ever owned. Worst because I have kept cars over 100,000 mi and this is the 1st car that I owned with a blown trans. and at only 63K- and lack of a good warranty is terrible. Because of it (poor warranty), I will probably stay away from Ford in the future (even though I've owned one for 3 decades)... They should stand behind their products better. My back up vehicle -Honda Odys- is running strong with 166,000 miles on it.

It's a great car as long as you get one with a good transmission.
Don't mind the lack of power - 1st 5 yr period in my life without a speeding ticket. Love the trunk...I'm a golfer and photographer...often have a lot to carry..fits 4 golf bags and 4 adults with light luggage very comfortably with the best back seat leg room in the industry. I get 22mpg with mixed Highway city driving.

17-23mpg does NOT make me happy.
Oil changes needed too frequently per gauge...suddenly tells me I have 9% oil after about 1400 miles.
Wish there were rear htd seats.
AC adapters through out car.
More storage...
Much more horsepower!
However tires/wheels are made, please try to make them so I do not keep getting flat tires caused by the rims! Otherwise, I traded a Town Car for a Montego....I love my Montego!!!

Traded TownCar for Montego - love the leg space, great trunk space, able to ride high, leather interior, just plain NICE looking interior...

Great mileage in beginning up to 27mpg BUT do not like mpg down to 16/17 even after oil filter, etc change, nitrogen tires (don't think they do any good and would probably NEVER buy them again)...

Love the moonroof and wish rear seats had heat! Like the dash/door storage.

Better mpg....pref over 30/35 OR as high as one could go.
Heat to rear seats.
Add more storage into "quiet areas".
Add AC/Heat controls to rear.
Add AC adapters to front AND rear.
Wasteful in center storage base...
More insulation.
Cushioning.
Better quality paint...
Windows that don't show road/dirt scratch marks.
These requests are not just for 2005, for any FORD/Mercury/Lincoln product!

Change the "Continuous Variable Transmission" - mine died at 40,000 miles, shortly after the warranty period. I have to replace the transmission at a cost of $6,000+!!! Ford is not standing behind their vehicle.

It is the best car ever! Smooth ride, comfortable seats, very roomy in the back...plenty of leg room....huge trunk plus seats fold down in the back. Seats are very comfortable especially when you need the seats heated. Love this car.

Install an easier cd changer; very hard to eject...

Whoever is looking for a fabulous ride, roomy car and comfortable go with this car......I turned in my lease and bought it because it was a good deal; no sense buying someone else's problem...consider this car if you want comfort and luxury driving.
