The mpg is absolutely terrible, even after a complete tune up...9.9 mpg.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
Would neveer own another one and would cost a fortune to have someone figure out what is wrong.

Pros: What do you like about 2005 Dodge Dakota?
I like the look and ride in my quad truck and the 4.7 engine.

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Dodge Dakota?
The cruise control sucks. When you go up hill not very smooth.
I have 17 factor wheels I have to have them rebalanced before I go on trips.
Would like a bigger bed.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
I like my 4.7 engine. I like the looks and the room of my quad cab. I have had to replace door lock opener and they are a bit pricey.

Rear brakes vibrate the whole vehicle. Dealer can't seem to find the trouble. Tried several times at no charge.

Pros: What do you like about 2005 Dodge Dakota?
It has a nice body contour, very original. Very nice interior.

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Dodge Dakota?
Improve gas mileage on the V6 3.7L.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
Bought my Dakota in June 2005. No problems up until about 2 months ago (April 2009) when the front end started shaking (violently I guess you could describe it). Any speeds past 45 mphs and when I brake the truck starts shaking. Even if you gradually ease into braking it starts shaking. I assumed it was the brakes because it had the original brakes since I bought it. So I changed the calipers, rotors and pads figuring it would solve the problem. Still nothing has changed and no one has any idea what is causing it. Perhaps Dodge (now owned by Fiat) should spend a little more money for some engineers that know what they are doing. Other than that it was a good buy!

Fix the shaking problem.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
I had the same problem as everyone else with my truck starting to shake/vibrate when I reached highway speeds. Did a lot of research on the web to learn that Chrysler can't figure out the problem. I am getting close to fixing it myself, and have narrowed it down to the parking brake on my truck. If I don't engage the parking brake, the shake does not occur. Something must be going on with the parking brake not fully dis-engaging when you pull the release. Since I've stopped using my parking brake, I have not noticed the shaking/vibration at speed. My next step will be to take the rear brakes apart and see if I can lubricate the parking brake enough to make it usable again.

Pros: What do you like about 2005 Dodge Dakota?
I would be very happy with this truck if it drove right. It has nice features, which is why I bought it. It's like Dodge tried to make a good truck, but was unable to nail the engineering.

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Dodge Dakota?
Same as others, engine knocks when cold (4.7L). Violent vibration when braking over 35 MPH. Dealership wants to charge $850.00 to replace rear brakes and drive shafts. I honestly don't think it will help. Also, it feels like there is something loose in the drive train, but the dealership cannot find it.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
If you buy one, you may find yourself wishing you had kept your last vehicle longer, no matter how old it was, or how many miles it had.

Pros: What do you like about 2005 Dodge Dakota?

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Dodge Dakota?
NOTHING ON THE INSIDE, THE OUTSIDE HOWEVER IS SAD, THE PAINT IS WONDERFUL, NO RUST, BUT THE BREAKS/ROTORS/SHOCKS/FRONT AXLE/TY RODS/ALMOST ANYTHING UNDER THE TRUCK IS SAD, FOR A 4 YEAR OLD TRUCK I HAVE REPLACED EACH OF THESE ITEMS (BREAKS MORE OFTEN) PLUS THINGS I CAN'T REMEMBER, I DRIVE ALOT OF MILES AND MY WARRENTY IS OVER, I WROTE TO THE MANUFACTURE, I WAS TOLD SO SORRY FOR YOU, YOUR WARRENTY IS UP AND WE WILL NOT REPLACE ANYTHING. I DON'T THINK THE THINGS THAT HAVE BROKEN ARE FROM NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I AM A WOMEN AND PURCHASED THE TRUCK FOR THE SNOW AND TO HALL MY SON'S MX BIKE TO THE TRACKS, I DO NOT GO OFF ROAD WITH IT, TRUCK WOULD PROBABLY FALL APART COMPLETELY IF I DID THAT. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE OF THESE TRUCKS, I HAVE PUT OVER $5000 INTO FIXING A 4 YEAR OLD TRUCK, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE WENT WITH THE CHEVY OR FORD.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
DON'T BUY THESE TRUCKS, THEY ARE NOT MADE TOUGH LIKE A TRUCK SHOULD BE, MINE IS A MONEY PIT AND ITS 4 YEARS OLD.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
Problem : Talked to Dodge and they said "yes, the technician took your truck out, and yes he felt the vibration and heard the noise. We contacted the district rep and some other trucks have this problem and there is no fix for it at this time. We have started a case number to prove that we know about it and to get a hold of you if the fix comes up". Is it true that there is no fix at this time?

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
Gas milage is terrible! Front fenders are like a tin can, front end noises and transmission hold this truck from being worthless.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
Great acceleration, good towing capacity and great looks. The truck runs great, never had an issue with the truck. So far regular maintenance for the past three years have been regular oil changes. I would opt for a bit longer bed on the four door if that were ever an option.

Cons: How would you improve 2005 Dodge Dakota?
The plastic fixtures on the interior seem a little cheap, including the "simulated wood grain" shiny plastic center dash module.

2005 Dodge Dakota Review:
I bought this vehicle used with 24,000 miles on it. So far, it has been reliable with a slight tendency to go out of alignment (about 6 months) with no apparent curb-collisions or road hazard.

The gas mileage is acceptable, but not outstanding. On the other hand, there seem to be no trucks that have great mileage, so it's really more of a quibble.

I'm searching for things I don't like about it. And can't find much. I had been told that to find fit and finish and consumer-friendly touches I would have to go to an offshore manufacturer. I'm happy to say that I don't believe that to be true. This is a good truck. A really good truck.
